We clear lots, acreage, fence lines and overgrown back sections across Hampton Roads so you can build on your land or just use it again. Trees down, stumps out, debris hauled, ground left workable.

Who Calls Us for Land Clearing
- Homeowners who bought a wooded lot and need a house site opened up
- Builders and general contractors who need a parcel cleared and grubbed before footings
- Farm and acreage owners reclaiming pasture, fence lines and field edges
- Anyone who has watched the back half of their property disappear under brush and vines
- Buyers who want a lot cleared enough to actually see what they are purchasing
Problems We Fix
- You cannot build until it is cleared and grubbed. Root balls left under a slab rot out and turn into settlement cracks later. We take them out.
- The lot is unusable. Twenty years of pine, sweetgum and greenbrier can swallow an acre. We open it back up.
- Nobody will quote the rest of the job. Surveyors, well drillers and foundation crews often need access before they will price anything.
- Storm damage. Downed timber and split trees after a named storm, cleared and hauled.
- Fire and pest load against the house. Heavy brush crowding structures holds moisture and invites termites.
What the Job Includes
- Walking the property with you and marking what stays and what goes
- Cutting and felling, with timber stacked or hauled depending on what you want
- Grubbing stumps and root mats out where anything structural is going in
- Stump grinding where the ground will stay lawn, pasture or trail
- Brush chipped, mulched in place or hauled off
- Silt fence and erosion control where the land disturbance permit requires it
- Rough grading so the cleared area drains instead of holding water
- Site swept and debris gone before we leave
Clearing Ground in Hampton Roads
Clearing here is not the same job it is inland, and the difference is water. Southern Chesapeake and large parts of Suffolk sit on heavy clay and organic soil with a shallow water table. A dozer that would walk right across a dry lot in the piedmont will sink to the belly pan out here in a wet spring, so timing matters and so does machine choice. We track lighter equipment onto soft ground and wait out the worst of it rather than tearing a property to pieces to stay on schedule.
The other local factor is regulation. Every city in the region enforces land disturbance rules, and parts of Virginia Beach and Chesapeake fall inside the Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area with buffer requirements around wetlands and waterways. We look at that before we start cutting, not after an inspector shows up.
Clearing or Mulching?
Not every job needs the ground stripped. If you want a parcel usable but you are not building on it, forestry mulching grinds the standing brush in place, costs a fraction of full clearing and leaves no burn pile. If a foundation, slab or driveway is going in, you need real clearing and grubbing. We will tell you honestly which one your project calls for and price both if it is a close call.
Land Clearing Questions We Get
How much does land clearing cost per acre?
It depends far more on what is standing than on the acreage. An acre of light brush and saplings is a different job from an acre of mature hardwood with root balls the size of a car. Density, stump handling and how the material leaves the site drive the number. We walk anything over an acre before quoting, because aerial photos badly understate what is under a canopy. See our land clearing cost guide for the full breakdown.
Do I need a permit to clear my land in Hampton Roads?
Usually yes once you disturb ground above a certain threshold, and the threshold varies by city. Wetland buffers and Chesapeake Bay Preservation Area rules can apply on top of that. We will tell you what your parcel needs and handle the erosion control side.
What happens to the trees and brush?
Your choice, and it changes the price. Timber can be stacked for you or sold, brush can be chipped or mulched in place, and anything left over gets hauled. Burning is regulated differently in each city, so we check before planning on it.
Do you remove the stumps?
If you are building, yes, they come out root ball and all. If the ground is staying lawn, pasture or trail, grinding is faster and cheaper and usually the better call.
How long does it take?
A residential lot is often a day or two. Multi acre clearing in Suffolk or Chesapeake runs longer and depends heavily on how wet the ground is when we start.
