Hampton Roads is a difficult place to do ground work, and most of the reasons are invisible until you open the dirt. The region is flat and low, much of it barely above sea level. The water table is shallow. The soil ranges from fast-draining sand at the beach to heavy clay in southern Chesapeake and Suffolk. Rainfall arrives in volume. And much of the housing stock is old enough that decades of settlement have quietly reversed the grade around the foundations.
An excavation contractor who learned the trade somewhere with hills and well-drained loam will get surprised here. We plan for these conditions instead of discovering them halfway through the dig with the hole filling up.

- Norfolk, VA. Norfolk is the tightest ground we work. Dense older neighborhoods, narrow alleys, mature street trees, and lots that were platted long before anyone owned a mini excavator.
- Virginia Beach, VA. Virginia Beach spreads out, from the resort strip and the older north end down to the farmland and large wooded parcels below the Green Line.
- Chesapeake, VA. Chesapeake gives us the widest range of jobs of anywhere we work: new subdivisions in Great Bridge, working farmland in the south, and acreage nobody has touched in decades.
- Suffolk, VA. Suffolk is the largest city by land area in Virginia, and most of it is exactly the kind of ground an excavation contractor wants: open, rural, and big enough to actually work on.
- Hampton, VA. Hampton is an older city with older infrastructure, and a lot of what we do here is fixing water problems that have been building for decades.
- Newport News, VA. Newport News runs long and narrow up the Peninsula, and the work changes character as you move north: tight urban lots in the south end, larger wooded parcels toward Denbigh and Lee Hall.
- Portsmouth, VA. Portsmouth is compact and historic, and the jobs here reward operators who can work clean in small spaces without tearing up what is around them.
